What active speakers means ?
Active filtering is the technology that allows you to filter and feed the signal that is specific for a dedicated speaker allowing to have much more capabilities for speaker fine tuning. This technology has been available for decades but required expensive setup. Now, it's really afordable and it would be so bad not enjoying it.
What cascaded speakers means?
Multiroom speakers are now well known from the consumer market as a solution to play simulteaneously the same sound in different rooms.
However, you cannot use two speakers to make a wireless stereo system, or even a 2.1 system with wireless subwoofer.
The cascaded speakers allows you to play all or part of the signal content to one speaker and configure another speaker differently. As an exemple, wireless subwoofer would play a part of a stereo signal. The remaining stereo signal could be played by two different wireless speakers, one for the left channel and for the right channel.
The key for doing wireless speakers is in the sync of the different channels you are playing.
The spirit of MyDSPi speakers project is to build an open source hardware and software plateform to make cascaded active speakers.
The project
Nothing else to make it work !
To configure the audio processing, no need to have programming skills, specific hardware or even download any third party software. A simple configuration file needs to be edited to reconfigure the DSP. This makes things much more user friendly.

The entire hardware and software files of the project are available for anyone who want to build its own speakers. It all relies on a Raspberry Pi 2 (or later) with Debian Jessie lite distribution and well known mopidy player.
The sync betweeen speakers is done thanks to the great Snapcast project
Last, digital signal processing and amplifier schematics, printed circuit boards layout, and control software source are available on my Github.
